Bring in the exact sofa, vanity or appliance you're planning to buy. Your model joins your workspace's catalog, private to your team, and places at its real size in 2D and 3D.
Before you start
- A full seat in the workspace (owners, admins and editors). Guests can see custom items used in designs shared with them, but can't add them.
- An active subscription, and file storage connected on the server. If storage isn't configured, the import window says so: you can still check a model's size, but it can't be saved.
- A .glb file (recommended) or a self-contained .gltf with its textures and data embedded, up to 200 MB. Draco- or meshopt-compressed models aren't supported yet; export without compression.
Steps
- Open the editor, press F for the catalog, and choose Import model.
- Drop your file in, or choose Choose a file. Models already in your workspace's asset library are listed underneath too. Reading the model happens on your device; nothing is uploaded yet.
- Check the size. The preview shows your model next to a 1.75 m (5′9″) person and a 2 m ruler.
- glTF files are meant to be in metres, but many are saved in centimetres, millimetres or inches. If the size looks wrong (a 180 m sofa!), we suggest the likely unit. Pick m, cm, mm, inches or feet to switch.
- Type an exact width, depth or height if you know it. With Proportions locked the other two follow, so the model never gets distorted.
- Tick The size is right to confirm it.
- Give it a name, choose a catalog section (or New category… to make your own section, such as "Client favourites"), where it's placed (floor, wall or ceiling) and how high it's raised.
- Choose Save to catalog. The file uploads, is checked for safety, and the item appears under Yours (and its section). Tap it, then tap the plan to place it.
How it looks
- 3D: your model, fitted to the item's width, depth and height. Resizing a placed copy resizes the model.
- 2D plan: a top-view outline of your model with its name, so plans stay fast to draw.
- While loading, or if the model can't be loaded (storage unavailable, the item was removed, or a viewer can't access it), a box of the right size labelled with the item's name stands in. Your design never breaks.
- Exports: GLB scene exports include your model when it has loaded in 3D. SVG and PDF plans show the item's footprint and name.
Edit or remove an item
- In the catalog, choose the pencil on your item to rename it, change its section, default size or colour.
- Remove from catalog stops it being offered for new placements. Copies already on plans stay exactly as they are. Restore it from the same window if you change your mind.
Common problems
- "This .gltf refers to separate files". Export the model as a single .glb.
- The model is lying on its side. glTF uses "Y up". Re-export from your 3D app with Y up, then import again.
- It's tiny or enormous. Pick a different unit in step 3 or type the real width.
- "Uploading needs a full seat". Ask a workspace owner or admin to make you an editor.
