Create your own materials

Make workspace materials with your own colour, roughness, reflectivity and an optional texture that tiles at its real size, then use them on floors, walls and furniture.

Match the exact paint colour or tile you've chosen. Your materials are saved to the workspace, so every design and every teammate can use them.

Before you start

  • A full seat in the workspace. Guests see custom materials in designs shared with them but can't create them.
  • Texture images need file storage connected on the server. Colour, roughness and reflectivity work without it.

Steps

  1. In the editor, open Materials and choose New material under Your materials.
  2. Name it and pick a kind (paint, tile, wood and so on). The kind decides which pickers offer it first.
  3. Choose the colour. Type a hex code such as #C9B8A4 if you have one from a paint chart.
  4. Set Roughness (0 = polished, 1 = matte) and Reflectivity (0 = non-metal, 1 = metal).
  5. Optional: Upload an image of one tile or patch, then set One tile covers to its real size, for example 300 mm or 12 in, and a rotation if the pattern should run at an angle.
  6. Choose Create material.
  7. Select a room, wall or item and click your material's swatch. You can also pick it in the inspector (listed as "Yours: …") or in Replace a material everywhere.

Physical tiling

A texture always repeats at the size you entered. A 300 mm tile is 300 mm on a small bathroom floor and on a big kitchen floor: the number of repeats is the surface size divided by the tile size. Floors show the texture in 3D; walls and furniture use the material's colour, roughness and reflectivity; the 2D plan uses its colour.

Edit or delete

  • Choose the pencil on a swatch to change it. Every surface using it updates.
  • Delete warns you if the open design uses it. Surfaces that use it keep its colour; it just isn't offered for new surfaces.

Common problems

  • The texture looks stretched or tiny. Check One tile covers: it's the real-world size of the image you uploaded.
  • I can't upload a texture. File storage may not be configured, or you may need a subscription or a full seat. The window explains which.
