Why scanning isn't in the browser

Web browsers can't access the native depth sensors (such as LiDAR) that make room scanning accurate. Proper scanning needs a companion mobile app. That app is not available yet; when it is, scans will arrive as editable proposals you review — just like blueprint imports — with honest accuracy notes. We will never present a camera-only estimate as a survey-grade measurement.

Steps: capture an existing room today

  1. Measure the room with a tape or laser measure — see Measure a room by hand. A single rectangular room takes about five minutes.
  2. Draw it in the editor and type the measured sizes.
  3. If you already have a plan drawing, import it instead and trace or detect the walls.

Common problems

  • I saw "Scan a room" in onboarding. It explains these options and links to the manual measuring guide; it doesn't start a scan.
