Import a blueprint or existing floor plan
Turn an image of an existing plan into editable walls with AI detection, or trace it by hand over a scaled reference.

On this page
Start from a plan you already have — a realtor's floor plan, an architect's drawing or a photo of a sketch — instead of drawing from nothing.
Before you start
- An image of the plan: PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 25 MB. A straight-on, well-lit image works best.
- PDFs must be exported as images first. Open the PDF, export or screenshot the page you need as PNG or JPEG.
- One dimension you know for certain, such as the length of one wall.
Steps
- In a project choose Import a plan and upload the image.
- Crop and straighten it so the plan fills the frame.
- Set the scale: draw a line along something whose length you know and type it, e.g.
12'6". Everything else is measured from this. - Choose how to convert it:
- Detect walls automatically (AI) — part of the subscription. The image is analysed and proposed walls, doors and windows appear with a confidence overlay. Low-confidence pieces are highlighted for checking.
- Trace manually — available on the Free plan too. The image stays as a faint background and you draw walls over it with the normal tools.
- Review. Check a few dimensions against reality, fix anything that's off, and delete stray walls.
- Choose Approve import. Only then do the walls join your project — as a single undoable step. The original image and how it was converted are kept with the project.
Accuracy
Detection quality depends on the drawing. Clean, high-contrast architectural plans work best; hand sketches, photos at an angle and busy marketing plans need more correction. Always verify key dimensions.
Privacy
Automatic detection sends the image to Anthropic for analysis when AI processing is enabled. If your workspace has opted out, manual tracing is still available. See AI privacy.
Common problems
- "Unsupported file type" for a PDF. Export the page as an image first.
- Everything is the wrong size. The scale line was off. Re-run Set the scale with the longest dimension you know.
- Curved walls came in straight. Import draws straight walls. Select the wall and choose Curved under Shape in the inspector (or drag its curve handle) to bend it to match.
