Print a PDF to scale

Choose paper size, orientation and scale, verify with the calibration ruler, and understand what fit-to-page does.

Print a plan you can measure with a ruler — for the contractor, the kitchen showroom or the fridge door.

Before you start

  • A project open in the editor.
  • A printer, or a print shop for large paper sizes.

Steps

  1. Choose Export → PDF to scale.
  2. Pick the paper size (Letter, Legal, Tabloid/Ledger, A4, A3, A2, A1) and orientation.
  3. Pick a scale:
    • Imperial: 1/8″ = 1′, 1/4″ = 1′, 1/2″ = 1′
    • Metric: 1:20, 1:50, 1:100, 1:200 The preview shows whether the plan fits the paper at that scale.
  4. Set margins and what to include (dimensions, furniture, room labels, legend).
  5. Export and print. In the print dialog, choose "Actual size" or 100% — not "Fit" or "Shrink to page".
  6. Check the calibration ruler printed on the sheet with a real ruler. If it measures correctly, every dimension on the sheet is to scale.

Fit to page

If you choose Fit to page, the plan is scaled to fill the paper. The PDF then states the actual resulting scale (e.g. "Scale ≈ 1:73 — not a standard scale"). Use it for overviews; use a standard scale when people will measure the drawing.

Common problems

  • The ruler is slightly off. Your printer or PDF viewer scaled the page. Print at 100% / Actual size.
  • The plan doesn't fit. Choose larger paper, a smaller scale (e.g. 1:100 instead of 1:50), or export one floor or area at a time.
