Ceilings: flat, sloped or open

Give each room a flat ceiling at any height, a sloped ceiling rising in a direction you choose, or no ceiling at all. See them in 3D and get the room's volume.

Each room has its own ceiling. Select the room and open the Ceiling section in the inspector.

Before you start

  • A room on the plan and edit access to the design.

Set a ceiling

  1. Select the room on the plan.
  2. Under Ceiling in the inspector, choose Flat, Sloped or Open.
  3. Type the heights (and, for a sloped ceiling, the direction it rises toward).

Ceiling types

  • Flat: one height. Until you type one, it uses the floor-to-floor height.
  • Sloped: a plane that rises from the Low side height at one wall to the High side height at the opposite side. Set the direction it rises toward with the dial (drag it, or use the arrow keys in 15° steps, Shift for 1°) or type degrees: 0° is to the right on the plan and 90° is down.
  • Open: no ceiling. Use it for double-height spaces together with Open to floor below on the room above.

Rules

  • The low side can't be higher than the high side.
  • No part of the ceiling can be higher than the room's tallest wall.
  • Heights are typed lengths in any format, for example 8', 2.4 m or 2400 mm.

Room volume

The inspector shows the room's volume in m³ or ft³, with how it was measured:

  • Flat: net floor area (inside the walls) × ceiling height.
  • Sloped: worked out exactly for the slope (net floor area × the average height under the slope).
  • Open: measured to the ceiling of the floor above.

In 3D

Turn on Ceilings in the 3D toolbar (they're always shown while you walk through). Ceilings are drawn from inside the room, so you can still look into rooms from above in the orbit view.
