Know where to find every tool so you can stop hunting and start designing.
Before you start
- Open any project or sample in the editor.
The layout
| Area | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Top bar | Project name, save status, undo/redo, units, 2D / 3D / split view, share and export. |
| Tool rail (left) | Rooms, walls, doors, windows, furniture, materials, dimensions and view tools. |
| Canvas (centre) | Your plan. Scroll to zoom around the pointer; hold Space and drag to pan. |
| Inspector (right) | Exact properties of whatever is selected: sizes, positions, rotation, materials. |
| Issues & jobs panel (bottom) | Clearance checks, collisions and running exports or renders. Collapsible. |
On tablets and phones the inspector and catalog open as sheets from the bottom of the screen, with larger touch handles.
Steps
- Select something. Click (or tap) an item. Hold Shift and click to add more items to the selection. Press Esc to cancel the current tool or clear the selection.
- Edit it precisely. Type values in the inspector. Lengths accept many formats, e.g.
12'6",3.81 mor3810 mm. - Nudge it. Use the arrow keys to move by one grid step; hold Shift for ten steps.
- Switch views. Press 3 to toggle 2D and 3D, or Shift+3 for split view.
- Undo anything. Mod+Z undoes and Mod+Shift+Z redoes. ("Mod" means ⌘ on a Mac and Ctrl elsewhere.)
Beginner and advanced mode
Beginner mode shows the essentials: Rooms, Walls, Doors, Windows, Furniture, Materials, Dimensions and View. Advanced mode adds more controls such as layers and detailed export options. Every capability is available in both — the mode only changes how much of the interface you see.
Common problems
- I can't find a tool. Press Mod+K and type what you want to do, e.g. "add a window".
- The canvas moved when I tried to select. You may be in the pan tool — press V for the select tool.
